From Japan’s floating ink to Jaipur’s workshops
Suminagashi — literally “floating ink” — began over a thousand years ago in Japan, where ink was dropped onto still water and coaxed into rings with a breath or the flick of a brush, then lifted onto paper in a single, unrepeatable print.
[Placeholder] The technique found its way to a small workshop in Jaipur, where a family of artisans adapted it for mineral pigments and handmade cotton paper — slower, richer, and built to be woven, framed, and lived with.

Preparing the Surface
A natural sizing is applied to the paper for the perfect surface for floating ink.
Floating Ink
Mineral pigments are gently dropped onto the water and swirled into fluid patterns.
Transferring the Pattern
The paper is carefully laid on the water to lift the marbled design.
Drying
Each sheet dries naturally, letting the colors settle and become one with the paper.
Hand Knot Weaving
Marbled sheets are cut and hand-woven into a grid, square by square.
Framing With Care
Professionally framed with archival materials to preserve and present the artwork.
