Rishabhnatha Ji is known as the first Jain Tirthankara among the Twenty-four Tirthankara. He was called the “Ford maker” because his teachings helped one across the sea of interminable deaths and rebirths. According to the traditional beliefs, he was the son to the King Nabhi and Queen Marudevi in the city of Ayodhya.
After his renunciation, legends state that he wandered for a year without consuming any food. The first ahaar taken by him after that is celebrated as Akshaya Tritiya by Jains.
